We're looking for students to Adopt a Club or Society and help keep some of our Student Groups running.

Unfortunately, some of our sports clubs and societies have had a tough year and didn’t have a committee in place to take over in May. Adopting a Club or Society is about reviving one of our inactive student groups.

Many of our societies and sports clubs already have everything in place (even including money in the bank). All you need is enthusiasm to help get our student groups back on their feet and get students involved in some of the fantastic opportunities available to them.

So, if you’re interested in taking on a leadership role and develop amazing employability skills as well as meeting new people, see the steps below on how to Adopt a Club or Society.

If you have any questions about any of the sports clubs or societies involved in Adopt a Club or Soc, please get in touch with your Vice President Student Activities.

Step 1: Choose a Club/Society

See which sports clubs and societies are up for adoption. Have a look on their webpages and view their constitution to see what they’re about.

Societies

  • African and Caribbean Society
  • Anime and Manga
  • Biomedical Science
  • Creative Writing
  • Criminology
  • Law Society
  • Nature Society
  • Oriental Society
  • Professional Policing

Sports Clubs

  • Archery
  • Fencing
  • Handball
  • Lacrosse
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • WorcHike

Step 2: Find a Committee

All of our sports clubs and societies require 3 students to form a committee consisting of the Chair, Vice Chair Finance and Admin, Vice Chair Inclusivity and Promotions. To find out what these roles entail, please read our Role Guide.

If you need help finding other students to form a committee with you, when applying you can let us know and we can support you with this.

Step 3: Application Form

Please complete this online form. A member of the Student Activities Team will be in contact with you in 10 working days to arrange a meeting to discuss your application.

Step 4: Matching

Sometimes we receive multiple interest to adopt the same sports club or society. Therefore, we will put you in touch with one another to discuss. This may involve switching committee position to the one you originally requested in your form.

Step 5: Approval and Training

  1. Committee members will be sent the relevant online training modules which need to be completed within 6 weeks of your sports club or society approval.
  2. You will also be required to attend an in-person 1 hour training session facilitated by the Student Activities Team.
  3. Once you have completed the relevant training, your webpage and bank account will be re-activated (you will get any remaining funds and assets from when it was last active)
  4. You’re ready to go!
