We have been given notice that the University and College Union (UCU) is calling upon its members to take industrial ‘action short of a strike’ (ASOS), starting on 20th April.  If you are not sure what this means, you can read further information here on the University’s web page https://www.worcester.ac.uk/contact/UCU-strike-FAQs.asp

To summarise, ASOS means:

• Working to contractual duties and not undertaking any voluntary activities.

• Not covering for absent colleagues.

• Not rescheduling classes and lectures cancelled due to strike action.

• Removing uploaded materials related to, and/or not sharing materials related to, lectures or classes that will be or have been cancelled as a result of strike action.

• A marking and assessment boycott.

This represents a stepping up of the industrial action taken to date and we are not yet sure how long it is expected to last. The University do not necessarily know which members of staff will take this action and so how many students will be affected. If you are affected, all communications to you should come from your Head of School or Head of Department. This may be fairly last minute due to the nature of the situation. We believe the University’s intention is to try and reschedule any teaching affected and so we will be asking how this can be done within the scope of the above.

If you are concerned about this latest action affecting you, please contact your Head of School or Department in the first instance.

We know this will be an unsettling time for some of you and recognise that there are differing views about the strike action but we are here for you as our members first and foremost, so please email us on studentsunion@worc.ac.uk if you need us.
