In October, your Officers wrote an open letter to Robin Walker, MP for Worcester, addressing the cost-of-living crisis and the lack of government support for students, inviting him to a meeting to discuss the issues facing you.

In early November, Al, Gemma, and Meg, met with Robin Walker to raise your concerns including a lack of financial support for students, the rising cost of travel, and the cost of tuition fees.

During the meeting your Officers asked Mr Walker to advocate for a tailored financial support package for students, asked for significant improvements to be made to bus services within Worcester, questioned why student loans had not increased following the cost-of-living crisis, and asked what the Conservative Party and government are doing to engage students and make sure they’re listened to.

Following the meeting, Mr Walker made a commitment to write to the Chancellor to discuss student concerns around the cost-of-living crisis, with the hope that this will feed into the current budget process. Additionally, Mr Walker invited the officers to attend a bus summit with local councillors and First Bus in order to provide student representation.
