We are pleased to announce that an important new security feature will be added to your University of Worcester student account on September 14th. Please read this email carefully is it contains information regarding this including the steps you need to follow in order to register.

The new feature is called Multi-Factor Authentication or MFA for short. MFA will add an additional layer of protection to your University account when you login, by requiring confirmation that it really is you using a secondary method when you sign-in to your University account online. This prevents unauthorised parties from compromising your account and gaining access through phishing attacks, for example.

It also allows you to reset your University password online, at anytime, from anywhere with an internet connection.

The main MFA methods are:

  • Using the Microsoft Authenticate app on your Apple IOS or Google Android device
  • Receiving a code via text message to be entered into an on screen prompt
  • Taking a phone call and inputting the code provided

Many of you may have seen similar features integrated within popular online services you are already familiar with, such as on certain social media platforms or online banking applications.

You will be prompted to register for this service the next time you login with your student account online from 14/09/2020 onwards.

If you encounter any difficulty with setting up or using MFA which the guide cannot resolve, please contact the University’s IT Service Desk on 01905 85 7500 between 08:30-17:00, Monday-Friday.

Whether you are beginning your first semester with us or returning for the next year of your studies, we hope that you will find this feature useful.
