We understand that the cost-of-living crisis is affecting many of our students. We have spoken to students who are skipping meals, eating one meal a day, and who cannot afford the essentials. We also understand that the cost-of-living crisis is having a severe effect on student’s mental health.

Each year, the Officer team are given a budget to spend on campaigns. This year we have been given £1500 and, as a team, we have decided to donate £1000 of this budget purely towards feeding our students.

So far, we have spent this money on hosting two free breakfast clubs. Due to the success and overwhelming demand of these, we will continue to host breakfast clubs throughout the year, so please keep an eye on our social media for details of our next event.

We feel that feeding students and supporting you through the cost-of-living crisis is one of our highest priorities. We are still planning further campaigns throughout the year and are exploring low-cost options for delivering these. We are aware that the money we have donated will only last us so long, and therefore we will continue our discussions with the University around the cost of living and how this is affecting students here at Worcester. We will continue to request additional funding and support from the University, and we sincerely hope they will respond positively to these requests.

If you are concerned about the cost of living, or are struggling to afford food, our Help and Advice team are now official foodbank voucher distributors. You can book an appointment with one of our advisors at www.worcsu.com/helpandadvice. Our Community Cupboard is also available for any student to take from, and is located in the side entrance of the SU and is open 24 hours a day. If you wish to donate to cupboard, please bring donations to the SU Welcome Desk Monday – Frida (10am-4pm).

If you have any questions or concerns about the cost-of-living, please get in touch with us via studentsunion@worc.ac.uk, or pop in and see us in the SU building on St John’s campus.
