Cost of Living Update

We recognise the many difficulties our students are facing due to the rising cost of living and will strive to tackle this crisis head-on. Over the last few weeks we have been working on several campaigns to raise awareness of the issues you’re facing and to support you in the ways in which we are able.

We recognise the many difficulties our students are facing due to the rising cost of living and will strive to tackle this crisis head-on. Over the last few weeks we have been working on several campaigns to raise awareness of the issues you’re facing and to support you in the ways in which we are able.

October Open Panel

Your SU Officers, along with members of the University’s leadership team, held their first open student panel in October on the topic of the cost of living. We spoke to over 100 students to hear their questions and thoughts on the cost of living. We received lots of constructive feedback, and questions, on topics including the price of food on campus, the Access to Learning Fund, and the cost of travel.

Community Cupboard

The increased cost of food is a concern for many of our students. In recognition of this, your SU President, Al, has created a Community Cupboard scheme in the SU, providing free food and toiletries to anyone who needs them. The cupboard is located in the entrance of the SU building on St John’s Campus, just come along and take what you need.

For those able to donate to the Community Cupboard, we can accept donations of toiletries, and non-perishable food and drink. Please ensure any donations are unopened and within date.

Breakfast Club

Due to the rising cost of food, we recently hosted our first ever Breakfast Club, giving students the opportunity to grab some free food and drink, and socialise with one another.

The event was a big success, with almost 70 students coming along to The Hangar before their lectures (and eating almost all the food we had!). We’ll be running more Breakfast Clubs throughout the year, so stay tuned more details on where and when.

Help and Advice

Our Help and Advice service is here to support all of our students, studying both in Worcester and at our Partner Institutions. If you have any concerns about the cost of living, accommodation, or general financial concerns, please get in touch with one of our Advisors via https://www.worcsu.com/helpandadvice/adviceform/.

Our Help & Advice service is also able to issue foodbank vouchers to students. If you are struggling to buy food, or are in financial difficulties, please book an appointment with one of our Advisors.

We will continue working to tackle the issues facing you during this time and if you have any questions or concerns around the cost-of-living, please get in touch with us via Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
