Why is recycling important?
Recycling converts waste into new products, preventing landfill disposal or incineration. It involves collecting, sorting, and processing materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal for remanufacturing.
Recycling conserves resources, reduces energy consumption and emissions, minimises pollution, and fosters a circular economy where materials are reused.
What can I recycle at WSU?
You can recycle the following items by dropping them at the Students’ Union Welcome Desk at St John’s Campus.
- Bras
- Paper, cardboard
- Clothes
- Hearing aids and glasses
You can also drop off old sports kit you don't need anymore to the Sports Centre on Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. Donated kit will go to students in need of spare kit to participate in rec sports.
Unfortunately the sport kit recycling scheme cannot accept:
- Underwear (including sports bras, socks, etc)
- Unpaired items (e.g. one shoe or one glove)
- Broken items or items with a large hole
- Items beyond wearable use
- Items with any mud, rust or mould
