On the 1st of July, two members of the 2016/17 committee attended the British Fencing awards dinner. The University of Worcester Fencing Club after a successful application had been shortlisted for University Club of the Year.
The awards dinner saw athletes, clubs and volunteers awarded and recognised for their achievements, commitment and contributions over the last year. The University of Worcester Fencing Club, was shortlisted for University Fencing Club of the Year alongside the large and longstanding fencing clubs of UCL, and Edinburgh University Fencing Clubs.
University Fencing Club of the Year is an award that aims to recognise and celebrate the effort of university clubs to increase participation rates and the inclusiveness of University Clubs. The shortlisted clubs were independently and externally assessed.
Both the committee members were sceptical of the clubs chances against such large and well established clubs, however the University of Worcester Fencing Club was awarded University Club of the Year!!
