Our SU Officers for 2024/25, Ruttuja Mane (SU President), Jack Lambert (Vice President Student Activities) and Elliot Atkinson (Vice President Education) have made some incredible achievements this year.
Our SU Officers for 2024/25, Ruttuja Mane (SU President), Jack Lambert (Vice President Student Activities) and Elliot Atkinson (Vice President Education) have made some incredible achievements this year.
Only a month after starting their roles in July 2024, our Officers hosted a virtual SU taster day along with the University's Comms team to introduce incoming students to the Students’ Union and Welcome Festival before they arrived on campus in September.
Ruttuja created and led the Kitchen Korner campaign, providing free kitchen utensils to help students get cooking, organising collection points for donations at the SU Welcome Desk and City Campus Hub.
In October, our Officer team met with the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Worcester Tom Collins (Labour) after the General Election to discuss issues affecting Worcester students!
Elliot organised and hosted this year’s Student Voice Conference, on the theme of Leading Through a New Lens! The event included multiple well received sessions on neurodiversity, networking, leadership styles and incredible guest speakers Saranya Thanvirajahn (NUS Vice President Liberation & Equality) and Mack Marshall (WONKHE).
They all collaborated with the University on a cultural calendar, running events throughout the year including Holi, Chinese New Year, an Iftar Meal and a hugely popular Diwali in Tramps Nightclub which over 200 students attended.
Jack led the way on making improvements to Varsity 2025, hosting Rugby and Football at external venues to increase capacity, as well as creating banners and decorations, and bringing in DJs and displays that improved the Varsity atmosphere!
The Officer team had multiple constructive conversations with Worcester Uni Food to give them the student perspective on the food offering on campus. These resulted in the launch of new cheaper food options on campus and Bake & Bite in the SU.
Ruttuja collaborated with the University Careers team to organise an Employability Week with events on CV writing, Demystifying LinkedIn, and the Officer role as a career opportunity. She also facilitated a regular Careers and Employability Drop-In at the Hangar too!
Following a proposal from Student Council, the Officers ensured the university implemented an 'email name change policy' to help students update their University email address more easily after changing their name.
Elliot raised awareness of neurodiversity throughout the University, providing sessions during rep training, and raising neurodiversity at University meetings which led to it being talked about in the University EDI Oversight group
All of our Officers went to Dudley Open Days to promote the Students’ Union at their open days and provide outreach to students, bringing pop up Breakfast with the SUs with them.
Jack organised a new Christmas Break Social Space to combat loneliness on campus, so students would have somewhere to meet up, socialise and celebrate together over the holiday.
From big changes to everyday improvements, our Officers are at the heart of everything we do as a Students’ Union, and it’s amazing to see how their hard work and dedication has paid off this year.
