The Students’ Choice Awards give students the opportunity to nominate the University of Worcester staff that have had a positive impact on them during their time at Worcester. This year we received over 800 nominations from students. We want to say a big well done and thank you to all the staff that have been nominated, highly commended, and shortlisted in this year’s awards.
Here are this year’s winners, along with some of the nominations they received from students. Congratulations all!
Excellence in Doctoral Supervision
Rosie Erol and Allain Bueno – School of Psychology and School of Science and the Environment
"As a part-time student my supervisory team have supervised me to a consistently high standard over an extended period of more than six years. They are from different academic backgrounds and work in different areas of the University but have acted together from their two perspectives which has led to fruitful discussions in supervision meetings. It has been a long haul, but they have maintained a real interest and enthusiasm for my project."
Exceptional Personal Academic Tutor
Dave Robson – School of Nursing and Midwifery
"Dave has provided me with exceptional pastoral support during a very difficult time for me, showing himself to be compassionate, empathetic and flexible...all this at a time when there were other demands on his time and uncertainty about the impact Covid-19 would have on the course as well as it's much wider implications. Dave has been a source of calm and vital support which has enabled me to continue through this year despite many hardships. I know that many of my colleagues feel the same."
Extra Mile Award
Kirsten Brown – Counsellor
"Kirsten has been incredibly supportive, helping me find ways to cope with the difficulties in a way that goes above and beyond that one hour in a room we have together. She has given me a space that allows me to just be me, to vent, to cry if needed. At a time I was low she made me feel safer and comfortable and allowed me to have a space to just breathe for a moment when I was entirely overwhelmed."
Daniel Coverley – Green Impact Project Assistant
“Daniel has taken on three green impact projects looking into energy usage at the arena, eco bricks as part of international recruitment, alongside a tree planting scheme at Lakeside. He is bringing sustainable thinking across the University of Worcester sites.”
Module Excellence Award
Philip Woodward – Inner City Education – School of Education
"This module has opened my eyes to the reality of the world we live in, how disadvantaged individuals are often neglected and stereotyped. In my opinion this module uncovers flaws in not only our education system but in government policies that abandon some of the most vulnerable in society."
Outstanding Lecturer Award
Allie Sewell – School of Education
"Allie is by far the most inspirational and supportive lecturer at UOW. Nothing is ever an issue and her advice is always on point. She has inspired me to further my career and push myself academically. She truly is a fantastic role model and lecturer."
Outstanding Lecturer Award
Jo Thomas – School of Nursing and Midwifery
"During the current pandemic, as course lead, she is helping hundreds of nursing students - who are unsure and anxious - understand what their role is in this pandemic. She is working overtime, and sends out briefings everyday to keep us up to date. On top of this she is preparing to return to practice to help in the current crisis! She is fantastic!"
Deputy Vice Chancellor Award for Excellence in Teaching
This shortlist and winner is chosen by the University's Deputy Vice Chancellor, Sarah Greer, for an individual who has excelled and accomplished amazing things during their time here at the University of Worcester. This year, due to an incredibly strong shortlist, Sarah simply couldn't narrow it down to one person, so our winners for this year are;
Daniel Farrelly – School of Psychology
Clare Taylor – Worcester Business School
