GRTSB Celebration Event: A Kushti Divvus for Rokkering (A Good Day for Talking)
🗓 Monday 30th June | 🕟 4:30pm – 6:30pm
📍 The Hangar, St John’s Campus
Join us for a vibrant celebration of the rich histories, voices, and cultures of the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showman, and Boater (GRTSB) communities. Enjoy an inspiring evening of conversation and connection as we honour identity, tradition, and the power of sharing experiences. Whether you come to learn, listen, or celebrate – It’s Kushti to Rokker… It really is good to talk.
This event will include the following talks/sessions:
GRT Rituals & Traditions
Stacey Hodgkins, journalist and researcher for Travellers’ Times and University of Worcester graduate, talks to Antonia (Students' Union Director of Representation & Membership Services) about her lived experiences from the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller community. With warmth and insight, she’ll explore the rich traditions and rituals that shape GRT identity and culture, offering a personal perspective on what makes the community vibrant and unique.
Understanding GRT Communities in Health, Education & Social Care
Dr Peter Unwin and Professor Győző Molnár will explore the key challenges faced by Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities in the UK, highlighting a lack of awareness and action in higher education, health, and social care. They’ll share insights from recent NHS-funded research, including work on ethnic classification, health access, and mental health inequalities—plus a short Q&A to wrap up.
This is a Free event. Snacks will be available. The atmosphere is very relaxed so feel free to come for part or all of the event. Students and wider community very welcome!
