My name is Clara Day and I am standing to be your Vice President Education. I started my Computing degree in 2022, I have been both a Student Rep and Department Rep so I understand the system that has been built. I want to be your VPE because I believe I can improve your educational experience by fighting for:
Reduced car parking fees across campus
- I want to offer weekly, monthly, day based or flexi passes, where you only pay for the days that you need.
- Transparency in where the fees go - are our car parks being maintained and improved, are they just trying to profit off students and commuters.
- Reduce fines for students - if you can’t afford a ticket how can you afford a fine?
Formalised timetable change procedure
I want to introduce a procedure to change your schedule:
- Send an email to timetabling with your reason, availability, and copy this to your lecturer and Department Rep.
- Timetabling evaluates the feasibility of your request.
- Student(s) to receive a detailed report from timetabling’s evaluation and justified outcome.
Accessibly formatted slide guidelines
- Lecturers are to receive guidance on formatting their slide deck to maximise the accessibility by having informative slides, an intuitive structure which in turn gives easy ability to alter font and colour without disrupting content.
Neuro-friendly social spaces
- On certain days, request that Café’s across campus will host neurodivergent-friendly social or study events, where the music will be calmer, lights are soft and the environment is inclusive.
My goal is to make accessing education as easy as possible, I believe by implementing these policies, we can remove barriers that make it harder. Despite me wearing headphones EVERYWHERE I go, please do approach me if you have any questions or suggestions.
