About us
We are a diverse group of dancers who all share a passion for dance and performance.
Our talented team of dance captains choreograph and teach a variety of routines during our open classes throughout the year. These classes are available to anyone! Come and try them out, even if you've never danced before! We offer recreational dance classes in Street, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary.
During our competition season in March, we have seven competition teams that represent our university and compete around the country. If you're interested, please attend an open group audition in front of the dance captains. You can audition for as many teams as you wish, and on audition day, you will have the opportunity to be chosen for up to four of our competitive teams, which include Street, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Wildcard, and new to 2023, our Lyrical competition team.
There will also be many performance opportunities for every member of the society. Both our recreational classes and competition teams have the chance to perform in many fundraising events over the year. These include our annual Christmas and end of year Dance Showcases.
Like many other clubs and societies, we also meet up for social on a Wednesday evening! Each week has a theme, simply dress according and meet the rest of the team in the Students Union, our social secretaries take care of the rest! Be prepared for an evening of fun as we take part in many drinking games before dancing the night away in Tramps.
Achievements
Over the last few years we have collected many titles and trophies.
Previous Worcester Saints won the university Varsity competition for 3 years running, 2015/2016/2017. We are also Varsity winners for 2019 and 2021!
In 2017 we also achieved 3rd in Ballet, 2nd in Street and Overall Best Team Spirit at the University of Northampton Take the Stage competition.
We have since then competed at the 2018 University Dance Championships in Nottingham where the titles and trophies just kept coming! We achieved: 1st place Contemporary, 1st place Jazz, 2nd place Wildcard, 3rd place Tap and 3rd place Ballet, as well as Best Team Spirit AND Dancer of the Day (Megan Scrivens).
We returned to the 2019 University Dance Championships in Nottingham where we again brought home many trophies! These included: 1st place Ballet, 2nd place Tap, 3rd place Jazz, and 3rd place Contemporary!
Oh, and we're also Tramps Nightclub Social Wars Winners 2018!
In 2020 we attended the Royal Holloway Dance Competition. We had the most amazing day and came home with an incredible 9 trophies! Making this our most successful competition to date! These included: 1st place Jazz, 2nd place in Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Street and Wildcard, Best Concept (Wildcard), Best Female of the Day (Giorgia Zinna) and Overall Team Spirit!
In the same week we also reclaimed our title as Tramps Nightclub Winners 2020! Resulting in us winning 10 trophies in one week!
Due to COVID-19, we were unable to attend the GHGH University of Nottingham University Dance Championships in person, however we competed in their virtual dance comp. Although we wished we could have been there in person, we were able to secure another 4 trophies! These included: 2nd place Contemporary, and 3rd place in Ballet, Tap and Street.
We are also the Student's Union Sports Club of the Year 2020!
This year we had to adapt the running of our club due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, we did not let this stop us! We worked harder than ever to perform and film our competition dances to compete in the University of Northampton's 2021 Virtual Competition, winning a total of 5 trophies! These included; 1st place Ballet (Advanced), 1st place Wildcard, 2nd place Jazz (Advanced), 2nd place Tap and 3rd place Contemporary.
In 2022 at the GHGH University Dance Championships and were successful in achieving 2nd place in Wildcard, 2nd place in Jazz, and 1st place in tap! We then traveled to the Royal Holloway dance competition where we placed Tap 1st, Street 1st, Jazz 2nd, and Contemporary 2nd! We rounded the 21/22 year off with winning 'Event of the Year' at the #TeamWorc Awards for our amazing Saints Strictly Come Dancing event.
In 2023, we returned to the GHGH University Dance Championships, and we achieved 3rd place Ballet, 3rd place in Jazz, 2nd place in Street and 1st place in our Wildcard piece 'Dancing through the decades'. We then travelled up to Liverpool University dance competition, and achieved 3rd places in our Jazz, Street and Tap teams. We ended our comeptition season attending University of Northamptons dance competiton, placing 3rd in Jazz. We ended the year with the return of our Saints Strictly Come Dancing Event, and completed a Charity Football Match against Worcester Sinners Cheerleading raising £321.47 for charity.
All of our dance classes take please in the Thomas Telford building (Room 5) which is located on St Johns Campus. Our Timetbale will commence w/c Monday 18th of September.
