About Us

Founded in 2007, the Royals currently play in the BUCS American Football South West Division 2. The club entered the division following the 2019-20 season. The Royals were conference champions in their 2018-19 season and are currently reigning varsity champions.

Our mission is to offer a new opportunity to students, all as part of a competitive, sporting and active experience. We have a strong and dedicated coaching staff, including former GB players and coaches, and a solid group of players who are always eager to accept people with an enthusiasm to learn something new or build upon existing skills. We offer every new player a chance to meet new people and are a growing community as we seek to recruit new members all the time! As well as this, we pride ourselves on having a family environment that can help you adapt whilst being away from home.

We are a hard-working team, that is competitive in our BUCS division.

If you are a student at the University of Worcester and are interested, then why not come and join us? The club is always welcoming new players, with previous experience or if you just want to try something new, with the aim to develop them into becoming the best they can be on and off the field. Please get in contact with the club if you think you could be the newest member of one of most welcoming and fastest growing societies at the University of Worcester or if you have any questions. Please contact us on Instagram @worcesterroyalsafc or Facebook through the Worcester Royals Facebook page.

Our Inclusivity Pledge:

American Football is a sport that takes pride in the inclusivity that is already provided within the club. With a history of diverse members, the club is open to all races, genders, size, shapes and understanding of the sport. During your time in American Football not only will you develop your knowledge and skills within the sport, but you also gain a family, a circle of people who trust and respect you and will always have your back. Not only are the Royals a community while playing on the field, but they also carry this out off the field when sharing each other’s success with after game celebrations and awards nights, as well as coming together on Wednesday nights and for sober socials.

During fresher’s week and the beginning of uni we will be distributing leaflets throughout campus and regularly updating all of our social media pages on what we have been up to. Our committee are always around and happy to help with any queries so don’t hesitate to get in touch. During this time and at certain points throughout the year we will be hosting free tester sessions, which are open for anyone to come and have a go or to even just watch and get a feel of the sport and see what happens during training. This is a fun experience where there will be games and team building exercises were everyone can get involved as an introduction into the sport. This is a time where we hope to encourage as many people to come and try out the sport while in a less daunting environment as we try and expand the club’s diversity. Even though the sport has been stereotypically labelled as a ‘male sport’ there have been female players in the past and this is something we would be excited to see again, especially as this is the first year having girls on the committee! As part of this experience you will get the opportunity to meet the team and the coaches and ask any questions you may have. We also offer the choice of coming to 3 free socials as a chance to get to know us away from the field before committing to the team.
