NeuroSoc

For anyone curious about the brain. Clinically, surgically, scientifically, or simply because it’s interesting.

NeuroSoc brings neurology, neurosurgery and neuroscience together, creating a space for students to explore the nervous system beyond the curriculum. Whether you already know exactly where you want your career to take you, have a vague interest in neuro, or just want to finally understand what the basal ganglia actually do, you’re welcome here.

Our aim is simple: to make the neurosciences interesting, accessible and worth getting involved in.

Across the year, we’ll be bringing together students, clinicians, surgeons, researchers and academics through:

• talks from neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroscientists, researchers and trainees
• neuroanatomy and clinical teaching designed to make difficult concepts actually click
• clinical cases and sessions that connect the science we learn to real patients and real practice
• career events exploring neurology, neurosurgery, academic neuroscience and related specialties
• research opportunities, journal clubs and academic events for those wanting to take their interest further
• conversations around new and emerging areas of neuroscience, from neuroimaging and neurotechnology to developments in neurological and neurosurgical care
• collaborations with other societies, universities and organisations
• socials and opportunities to meet people who happen to find the same things interesting

But NeuroSoc isn’t just for people who have already decided they want a career in neuro-something.

We want to build a community that sits somewhere between a clinical society, an academic network and a genuinely good place to meet people. Somewhere you can learn something useful, discover an area of medicine you hadn’t considered before, find opportunities to get involved in research, meet people further along the same path, or just turn up because the event sounded interesting. 

And if you’re only here for the socials, we’re told ethanol has some interesting effects on the nervous system too (control group inclusive).

Some people will come because they want to be neurosurgeons. Some because they love neuroscience. Some because they want to get better at neurology. Some because they saw a brain on the poster.

All are valid.
