The United Nations was created in 1945, aiming to maintain peace and security as well as to increase international cooperation. It is recognised as a leader of peace and human development. Our society is inspired by this organisation for students to develop their research skills, general knowledge about ongoing or historical conflicts, and their speaking ability. After a vote to determine a subject of debate, the participants will choose the country that they wish to represent for the debate. After the debate, we will all collaborate to try to draft a resolution. This resolution will be subject to a vote (pass or fail).
Our sessions will take place at St John Campus in room EEG169. They will take place on Tuesday every week. The first week, we will vote on the topic and start the research together to encourage people to collaborate as well as to help those who might struggle with the research part. The second week is the debate, which gives a full week for the research. The cost of joining the society is either £10 for the whole year or £6 per semester. We use this money to fund national and international trips for our members to conferences all over the world.
