What’s On

Everything going on in the SU and at The Hangar, from colour runs to karaoke and everything in-between

When is Welcome Week?

New students will be arriving at the University from the 9th – 12th September, with our Welcome Week running from the 9th until the end of the following week on the 20th September (we know it’s not technically a week). It might not be the kind of Welcome Week you’d usually see, but we’ll be putting on various events and activities to make sure all of our new and returning students have the best possible experience to kick-off the academic year.

What events will be held during Welcome Week?

The Students’ Union team will be on hand throughout Welcome Week to help you all settle in during your first few days here. Over Welcome Weekend (12th-13th September) we’ll have marquees set-up across St John’s Campus and City Campus with information stalls, food & drink, live music, and all our clubs and societies.

Our bar, The Hangar, will be open everyday during Welcome Week with lots of different events giving you the opportunity to socialise with your fellow students. We’ll have things like quiz nights, film nights, and mini golf. Keep an eye on The Hangar social media channels for all the latest updates.

We're also going to be running a number of online events so that as many of you as possible can get involved with everything that's going on.

In September we will also be launching our Welcome to Worcester website. This is our year-long Welcome Fair with (almost) everything you’d expect to find at the physical Fair. You can find out all about the SU, key University services, volunteering opportunities, and all the best local businesses in Worcestershire.

How do we know if Welcome groups and events are endorsed by the SU?

Our official student group on Facebook for the 2020-21 academic year is up and running and is the best place to see what’s going on this Welcome Week. Any other Welcome Week Facebook groups are not official and are not endorsed by the SU. Our only official Welcome Week partner is Tramps Nightclub. Any other venues hosting Welcome Week events are not doing so in an official capacity.

Will there be a Welcome Week wristband for Tramps?

Our friends over at Tramps are working hard to put together a great Welcome Week lineup for you all. Make sure you’re following them on social media to get all the latest news on what they have planned. And we’ll be letting you know the full Tramps lineup over the coming weeks.

When is The Hangar open and will it be operating differently?

The Hangar will be open from the beginning of September, but the following changes will be in place to make sure we’re staying Covid-secure:

·         It will be table-service only, with no customers at the bar
·         A one-way system will be in place throughout the venue
·         The venue will be open for walk-ins from 12pm-6pm
·         A booking system will be in place after 6pm

As long as regulations allow, we’re going to be open throughout the semester, with all the usual fantastic drinks & deals and great nights We’ll keep you all updated with everything that’s going on via our website and social media channels.

Will there be a Sports and Societies Fair this year?

We’ll still be hosting the Sports and Societies Fair, but this year it’s going to be a little bit different. The Fair will be held across St John’s Campus and City Campus on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September. All our Clubs and Societies will be there on both days to answer any questions you have about joining TeamWorc. If you can’t make it to the Fair in person, you can view a full list of our Clubs and Societies at www.worcsu.com/sports_activities.

What are the plans for BUCS this year?

BUCS competition will be going ahead, with a full fixture list, during the second semester. We’ll be keeping all our Club committees up to date with all the latest developments throughout the year. If you’re looking to join a Club, we still recommend doing so in the first semester, as you’ll still be able to train and attend socials.

What other ways can I get involved with the SU?

You’ll be able to get involved in all of the ways you could before. Some things might be a little bit different this year, but we’re still here to help give you the best possible university experience. That means you’ll be able to take part in clubs, societies, TeamWorc Action (formerly volunteering), and Raise and Give (RAG). Make sure you keep an eye on our social media to keep up to date with everything that’s happening throughout the year so you don’t miss out.

Where can I find updates from the University?

The University will be in touch with all our new students via email in the weeks leading up to Welcome Week. You can also find out all the latest news via their Facebook page. And you can visit their website – www.worc.ac.uk – for information on things like accommodation, student services, your course, and graduation.
