Volunteering Opportunities with Headway Worcestershire
We work in partnership with Headway Worcestershire, a charity which supports adults with acquired brain injuries. Together we offer a number of volunteering projects and always welcome student volunteers to work with Headway in any capacity - if you have a skill or passion, Headway want you!
Every year, about 135,000 people suffer a brain injury. Headway Worcestershire is a charity which provides support to adults with acquired brain damage, supporting and providing services for them and their families. Visit the www.HeadwayWorcestershire.org.uk to find out more about organisation and charity. Volunteers are vital to the work of the charity. Students will find Headway an ideal charity to work with on a project, either as part of their studies or as valuable work experience. There are a number of activities, social and educational events volunteers can get involved with as well as 'behind the scenes' roles.
About our Roles
Previous experience is preferred but not essential as it is more important to have a desire to help people and to be non-judgmental.
Volunteers will be supported by a Headway Worcestershire employee and relevant training and guidance will be provided where needed.
We support adults to relearn lost skills, socialise, increase confidence and to take part in hub and community based activities. These are very rewarding roles with lots of potential for personal and professional growth, whilst donating your time to a genuinely worth-while cause.
Commitment Required
We understand volunteers have busy lives, all we ask for is honesty about your intentions so we can match you to our roles effectively.
All of our opportunities can easily work around university holidays and exam periods.
Where can you volunteer with Headway?
We like to encourage students to think of the skills they would like to see developed in themselves. Depending on the degree you do, the goals you’d like to achieve and the type of jobs you might want to fall into, there are roles for anybody looking to spend some time building on the experience.
For anybody doing a business degree, the Fundraising and Marketing Department might be the perfect opportunity to see how things work in a local organisation and have an input into the strategy, the events planned, increasing promotion and much more. We are hoping to grow our team and become more efficient by getting fresh ideas which can only come from you!
If you are creative (or would like to get better at it), have a passion for writing or even doing a degree in PR, creative writing or English Literature, there is an opportunity for you to help with our newsletters, blog and social media projects.
Particularly popular with Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Social Care students, the Wellbeing Hubs accepts volunteers who are willing to offer support to those with brain injury attending the activities. However, there are no restrictions towards who can join this opportunity! As long as you have patience, are friendly and eager to help, Headway needs your help.
Shopping Assistants are also needed in the Charity Shops in Worcester City Centre. If you have a bubbly personality, like talking to people and enjoy helping them make the right choices, then we could use the salesman in you.
