Celebration Week is a much-anticipated date in the Students’ Union calendar. The Union Awards and Colours Ball offer the perfect opportunity for us to recognise the outstanding achievements of our students as well as both teaching and support staff here at the University of Worcester.

Both evenings saw the celebration of a wealth of student success from the past year. At the Union Awards, societies such as Loco Show Co., the Christian Union and Zumba won a variety of different awards, recognising their charity work to some of the best student-led events of the year. We’re also delighted to announce that our Mature Students’ Society were awarded with New Society of the Year.

The Union Awards also celebrates the hard work of teaching and support staff here at the University, from Outstanding Lecturers to Personal Academic Tutors, to those members of support staff who consistently go the extra mile. All of the winners were initially shortlisted from over 500 nominations from students. A panel consisting of Institute Reps and Euan Morrison, our VP Education, then chose the winners. The night also ended with Deputy Vice Chancellor, Sarah Greer, presenting her very own special award. The recipient of this award was Lisa Griffiths of the Institute of Sport & Exercise Science. You can see a full list of winners from the Union Awards: Students’ Choice below:

We’re also pleased to announce that the Institute of Education received the most nominations.

The following evening, Colours Ball saw Commonwealth Gold Medal Winner and Severn Stars Netball Player, Jodie Gibson, collect her award for Female Athlete of the Year. Chris Bright, who has represented Wales in his sport and who was selected for the English Universities Futsal Squad this season also collected the award for Male Athlete of the Year. Alongside his on court success, he is the founder of The Diabetic Football Community and successfully organised the first training session for the UKs first ever All Diabetic Futsal Team this year. Again, all the winners from Colours Ball can be viewed below:

The Students’ Union and its members have been going from strength to strength over the last year, and it’s wonderful to be able to finish the academic year celebrating this success in all its various different avenues. Congratulations to you all!

For the second year running, Celebration Week has seen these ceremonies held at the University of Worcester Arena. We would like to extend our thanks to staff at the arena for their support in helping us put on such a successful event. The feedback from students and staff remains very positive. We would also like to thank Aramark for providing everyone with some delicious food and complimentary welcome drinks.

Photographs from the evening, taken by two members of student staff here at the Students’ Union, can be viewed on our Facebook page as well as upon request. Simply email studentsunion@worc.ac.uk.
