Are you passionate about developing others and about promoting inclusion and equality of opportunity? Are you a professional and engaging person? Is it in your nature to be positive and to go the extra mile? If yes, then you are already living our values.
Worcester Students’ Union (WSU) represents around 10,000 students (our members), studying at the University of Worcester and its partner institutions. We are a charitable organisation and our mission is ‘representing and supporting students to develop and achieve’. As Student Networks and Volunteering Assistant, you would play a key role in realising our mission, supporting both our representative structures for Welfare and Liberation groups, and developing our volunteering and employability offer to our members.
You will be joining us at an exciting time as we implement our new governance structure which follows a comprehensive two-year review. Our new structure includes the introduction of 8 new student-led Networks which we hope will increase our ability to involve our students and act upon their views and opinions. The Student Networks and Volunteering Assistant will play a crucial role supporting the development of these Networks, working within the Student Engagement Team to ensure they deliver positive outcomes for students across the University. You will also support the SU President to develop a new Welfare and Inclusion Council which will bring the Networks together to discuss and formulate ideas and policy on issues that matter to them.
You will work closely with our Student Engagement Coordinator to drive forward our employability and volunteering offer for students, as well as supporting our elected Officers during their time in office. You will support our work to ensure that our students have a range of opportunities to help them develop the personal and professional skills that they need for the future. Strong interpersonal skills will be important as you develop relationships with students and other stakeholders.
The last five years has seen the SU go from strength to strength. In 2018, we were shortlisted for NUS Students’ Union of the Year and we have seen significant increases in satisfaction rates, reaching the Top 15 in the Whatuni Student Survey in 2020. Our scores in the National Student Survey went up once again this year and in our own ‘Big Worc Survey’, 80% of students are either ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with us. We are still determined, however, to improve wherever we can and involve more and more of our members in what we do. We are looking for a candidate who will thrivein a varied and fast paced environment and who will be committed to providing a high quality experience for our students, as well as to developing your own skills and abilities.
Worcester Students’ Union is committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, marital status or disability status. We want to support diverse and inclusive work environments and are actively looking for people who share our values.
