Rich Dean, Vice President Student Experience

We’ve now reached that time of year to reignite our sporting passion against our Varsity rivals, the University of Gloucestershire. This time around we’re starting early! We want to make sure that clubs, squads and individual players are fully prepared and supported in the build up to Varsity.

Since 2007 we have lost the series by a considerable margin and as a result have prompted the production of the these...www.glos-shop.co.uk/varsity-clothing. Let’s not allow them to add 2012 onto the list.

On comparing the BUCS league tables and tiers that both Worcester and Gloucestershire are competing in, it becomes very clear that we compete on an even playing field in the Varsity sports. We are at exactly the same standard in 6 sports and in another 6 sports we play higher in 3 and Gloucestershire in the other 3. This, without doubt, demonstrates that we are closer than people think and there is no good reason why we can’t take the 2012 series as ours.

When I started at the University, students in the years above me would say “this is the event in the calendar to look forward to” and I found myself saying it to new students also. This year it becomes more meaningful. I want to put the prestige back into the event and make it a highlight to players and spectators for all of the right reasons. We have the talent within our sportsmen and women and the support from our spectators. We are not there to win ‘at the banter’, nor just make up the numbers. We are in it to showcase our sporting talent and professional approach through Team Worc.

Finally for once let’s take this seriously as a University, from team selection, to pre-match training through to performance on the day…PREPARATION STARTS NOW.
