MATCH 1: Men's Cricket; Worcester 206 for 7; Gloucestershire 209 for 5

Varsity 2010 got underway in glorious sunshine at the tranquil setting of Worcester Norton Cricket Club, in front of a not so tranquil crowd of over 170. Worcester batted first and were in trouble with the loss of three early wickets but a solid middle order helped the hosts to put on a sizable total, tallying 206 for 7 at the end of their forty overs. It looked as things would go Worcester's way in the field too as Gloucestershire failed to score in the opening three overs with the bat and lost a relatively early wicket too. However, a great second wicket stand of 120 put the visitors firmly in control. A spirited late spell from Worcester with three wickets made for a tense final few overs, but a boundary secured the win for Gloucestershire with eleven balls to spare giving them the match and the opening point of Varsity 2010.
