After a successful season in the BUCS leagues Gloucestershire’s ladies’ hockey team will come into Varsity brimming with confidence as they look to retain the title they won in the 2010 Worcester sunshine. The Gloucestershire 1st team stormed to the Western Conference 1A title with a 100% record from their ten games to set-up a play-off with Brighton for a place in the top flight; a play-off they duly won to secure promotion.
Worcester’s ladies’ hockey set-up may be half the size of the Gloucestershire operation, with two sides compared to their four, but they ran their rivals close both at last year’s Varsity and in a pre-season friendly and will have a keen eye on causing an upset. Some creditable late season performances from the Worcester girls, including an impressive league victory over Oxford, ensures that spirits are high as they get set to travel to Gloucester for this game.
There are no tickets for these events and they are free to attend. However, there is a limit on attendance. There is room for just 100 Worcester supporters at the Men's and Ladies' Hockey.
The Students' Union will be organising transport for spectators, though be aware all buses will go on to Kingsholm for the Rugby after Oxstalls. If you are travelling on our spectator buses, but do not wish to watch the Rugby you will need to make your own return travel plans.
To secure a place on the buses to these fixtures you will need to purchase a £1 transport ticket from the Students' Union. These tickets go on sale on Thursday 31st March, and will be on sale until 2pm, on Tuesday 5th April.
If you can't get to this fixture you can get live updates on Twitter, by following @worcsusportsocs and keeping an eye out for the #VarsityGlosWorc hashtag.
Reports on each fixture will be added to the Results section of www.worcsu.com/varsity within 24 hours of their conclusion.
The Worcester News will also be carrying reports from each day of Varsity.
